Ode to Amy
I made this piece in response to my own "Back to Black" moment and named it an Ode to Amy as a nod to the singer Amy Winehouse.
I think in life we all have those bleak or black moments and despite great darkness, great beauty and understanding can emerge from them. I wanted to use the white sheep fleece as a metaphor for light overcoming darkness; like a burst of sunlight or heavenly cloud coming through a stormy sky, drenched in rainfall. The moon (also shrouded in darkness) has it's own story, being fashioned from an undiscerned upcycled rubber object, and weighted down by handmade and glazed ceramic beads. Darkened leather peacock shapes flutter in its wake, softened by the sumptious threads of mohair and acrylic.
This is a handmade, woven art work, incorporating a range of new natural fibres, and recycled synthetic trimmings and wools.
70cm x 85cm in size.
