Books, bills and threadbare clothes are staples we work through rearing children (and the material things they need and grow out of) tirelessly trying to keep everyone fed, housed and safe. Mary's pregnancy was such a fragile scene, an archetypal image gently mirrored in our own birth stories, without the right support, the whole thing could have unravelled in an instant.
